New Mixtape: HAIM, King Krule, Old Monk And Many More

After a brief hiatus, we’re back with a new Mixtape featuring coverage from BestNewBands.com’s music savvy writers, plus some new tracks from new bands that are fresh out the oven. Katrina was at Los Angeles’ The Echoplex for Cotillon’s last residency night, and witnessed their “straightforward, heartfelt  performance.” Brigit covered Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival, and highlights included The Comettes, who she touted as “one of the strongest new bands from the festival,” as well as The Grizzled Mighty, who “played a pretty wild set.” I finally got to see Old Monk in Brooklyn, and they rocked me right at Matchless.

Brigit also reviewed the new No Age record, and Evan Clark got ahold of King Krule’s new album 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, the proper debut from the UK brooding minimalist, where “it’s the internal chaos and pain that is perfectly captured by Krule’s howling roar.”

In Featured Artists we showcased SISU, the passion project of Dum Dum Girl drummer Sandra Vu, and mysterious NYC electronic dance outfit Little Daylight.

In other releases, NC’s fuzzed out folk rockers Schooner dropped “It Won’t Matter,” first single off their long awaited album Neighborhood Veins, coming out later this month.

UK producer Tourist remixed HAIM’s “The Wire,” giving it a chill dance vibe.

Easter Island is a band of brothers from Athens, GA, who make post-rock dream pop, and A-side “Dinosaur” is a track the encapsulates that aesthetic perfectly.

Psych rockers TRAAMS released choice cut “Flowers,” off their forthcoming full length due out later this month on FatCat.

Fans of Iceage will appreciate the similarly hard driving post-punk of Sweden’s Holograms. They just released a new album, and a video for single “Meditations.”

Mister Goodnite is the moniker of LA’s Tyler Parkford, and lead track “Don’t Trust Me” showcases his falsetto croon over rare soul, psych and funk samples.
