But let’s get down to it, we don’t care about the elusive link between John Mayer and Smashing Pumpkins, we care more about what’s happening with SP’s ambitious new 1000-track album. Given that they haven’t updated their blog since late October, I feel like Jessica Simpson is hardly the breaking news SP fans were hoping for.

Unless we’re going to hear her on an experimental crossover! I’d be game for that, putting a little aspartame in the Pumpkins game and a little emo in Simpson’s Maybelline. Just don’t tease us with this crap — we want to know where we stand in this relationship. For the time being, they’ve left us only with this peek at Billy sampling some keyboards, and a new demo called “A Song For A Son” (after the break) — here’s hoping this Jessica Simpson thing is a result of Billy Corgan’s biological clock ticking.
