Canada never sounded so good. Or at least not in my years. Canada is home to awesome bands like The Luyas (check out my interview with Jessie of the Luyas HERE) and the dance crooners Death From Above 1979 but Broken Social Scene is what they offer best, besides their beer and maple syrup.  Broken Social Scene is comprised of a party of people, at times including up to 20 members. But Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew are to blame (or bless) for the creation of this musical miracle.

Since 1999, Broken Social Scene has been busy releasing their five albums, plus two solo albums from both Drew and Canning. And after years of touring, a new tour is set to kick off starting this Friday on October 1st.  The tour will take them throughout varies regions in Canada and Europe as well as a few stops here in the states.

Among their west coast stops is The Wiltern in Los Angeles.  Their first time playing here is going to be a sight to see.  The Wiltern’s concert hall setting will only amplify what is heard on their albums. Though this is the band’s first time playing at this venue, BSS former member Feist has played there before.

Broken Social Scene has an harmoniously ethereal sound supported by both male and female vocals.  Recently, their song “Anthems of a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl” was featured in the movie “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” so you’ve probably heard them but not known they made the song you fell in love with. Also, they’ve just released a DVD title “This Movie is Broken.” A love story, the movie features a boy, a girl and Broken Social Scene being the girl’s favorite band.  The DVD can also be purchased, along with their latest release “Forgiveness Rock Record,” at their site and the merch tables at their shows.
