The Postelles Throw Some Rock at San Francisco’s Rickshaw Stop

My night was kicked off with a line leading up to the front door of the Rickshaw Stop. This soon turned into a greeting from an individual who was convulsing and screaming his life philosophy “children below you must open up your eyes to what’s happening around you” he shouted from up top of a fire escape near the venue. This was strange, but ever so normal in a city as eccentric as San Francisco.

Ever since Popscene found its new home at the Rickshaw Stop, I have become a regular at this weekly indie rock event. The resident djs brought some good vibes as people were entering the club. Much of this crowd was taking full advantage of the 18+ restrictions that applied to the night as they cruised the venue sporting black x’s on their hands.

The New York Retro Indie-Rockers The Postelles made a headlining appearance at the Rickshaw Stop, following up their opening slot for The Kooks at Slims on Wednesday in SF. They took the stage looking ready for action as they immediately busted into what I will assume is a new song of theirs “Looking Glass”. This song featured spacey guitar riffs, crashing cymbals and strong vocals.

Following the opening song there was no time for banter as they dove straight into “She She”. This song gave me feelings of 2004 when I first heard Franz Ferdinand on my way to my freshman year of college. This included everything catchy and fun that goes along with that experience.

The entire set was solid, although much of the crowd was much more focused on their social experiences than the incredible live music that was being created 10 feet away from them. In dire need of grabbing the audience’s attention they pulled out a few classic covers starting with the Rivieras “California Sun” and following with Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog”. The crowd ate this up and began dancing frantically. This was followed up with their closing song “White Night”, which is a rocked out single that likely caught the attention of the under 21 crowd as they made their exit.

This show was their last show on their tour, but you can stay connected with The Postelles on Facebook and Twitter.
