Mixtape 17: – The Black Angels – Django Django – Youth Lagoon And More

The post-SXSW recovery still seemed to be resonating this past week, but there’s still been some new music news; not the least of which is Ryan Adams forming a punk band called Pornography. The Black Angels were profiled as our Featured Artist, We Were Lovers talked about fulfilling their musical vision, and their upcoming album in their interview with Katrina, and I reviewed Hockey at Glasslands, so one of the tracks from their upcoming album is on the mix as well.

And these guys:

Australian fuzzy pop band Splashh have been making sun-soaked shoegaze tunes that sound like what it might feel like to spend a summer on the beach down under, and this past week we got news that they are making their US debut for the first time next month, and releasing a new album in June. Single  “Sun Kissed Bliss” is off said album, and all tour dates are here.

Youth Lagoon seems to be ubiquitus these days. Maybe it’s all those SXSW shows he played, or that he keeps trickling out European tour dates. Whatever it is, this dude is buzzing hard.

“beaches divorced down and out slacker pop kitchen’s floor panel of judges peak twins pop-grunge-character building the twerps Footscray” are probably the best tags I’ve ever seen on Bandcamp, and they belong to Scott & Charlene’s Wedding.

Pony Boy is the moniker of bluesy songwriter Marchelle Bradanini, who initially caught my attention with the probable reference to The Outsiders, and now is really worming her way into my musical heart with her twangy throwback old western sounds. Her latest tune “Greatest Unknown” dropped last Wednesday.

Folk singer/songwriter Margaret Glaspy is coming up as an artist to watch, and I definitely want to hear more stuff like “Who Said.”

Last Monday Django Django released the official video for “WOR,” featuring the infamous Indian Well of Death riders in Allahabad. It’s pretty wild, with the music juxtaposed with brief documentary style visuals and interviews, as you can see
