Leona Laurie: Why do you think your EP would make the perfect holiday gift?

Jennifer Quiroz: The songs on this EP are mostly about hope, which I think is also what this holiday season is about. This record is about overcoming obstacles, seeing the good in every experience and having faith that things are always for the best.

“Percussion Gun” - White Rabbits:
On Saturday, Kristina Villarini shared her interview with White Rabbits. Here’s an excerpt of their conversation:

Kristina: What is the collaborative process for you guys? Do you ever battle it out for a specific sound?
Brian Betancourt: Yeah, yeah.
Alex Even: It's always a bit of a struggle.
BB: Six people, you know, you get a lot of different opinions.
Matthew Clark: Six... Yeah. Six.
[Silence]
MC: Six. [Laughs]
AE: Generally, it takes a little bit to get everybody to, sort of, get on board with an idea. But in the end, we think it's better that we have to fight and struggle to get anything to the surface, because it means we're all excited about it.
BB: It can be pretty hard, but the pay-off is always satisfying.

A glorious day was celebrated last night at the Roxy. Jennifer Quiroz took the stage in sparkled garb for her birthday, playing seven original songs and a cover of Will Give's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" to an excited crowd of friends, family and new fans. With her band rocking out behind her, Jennifer glowed with the utmost enjoyment and appreciation to see all of those faces smiling back at her.

The bill was made up of different bands playing different genres, which made Jennifer stand out even more being the only solo female to perform. Not to mention all the shouts and screams belted her way. All eyes were on her in the best way and she worked it well.

Remember way back when in the 90’s, when chicks ruled the airwaves? Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morrisette are just a few of the ladies whose emotion vocally flooded our speakers.  Fast forward to now, when the voice of female perspective in alternative music is essentially nonexistent.  Thank goodness for Jennifer Quiroz, our answer to the 90’s withdrawals we’ve all been having.  Jennifer Quiroz is a solo acoustic singer/songwriter whose lyrics are easy to relate to and whose voice evokes what some of us didn’t even know we felt.

Me:I get a hint of 90's era female acoustic sound when I hear listen to your music. Does any of your sound's influence come from any of those artists?

Jennifer: I was a kid in the 90s, so I think that subconsciously, some of that sound couldn't help but seep in. I was obsessed with Fiona Apple and Tidal as a kid. She had that low, emotional, brooding voice that I could sing along with and raw, emotional lyrics that I could relate to...in thinking about it, I was probably really influenced to write honest and confessional lyrics by her.
