“Christmas Tree” – The Bewitched Hands
2011 will bring the US release of The Bewitched Hands’ debut LP, Birds & Drums, hailed by French press as “the sign of the heroic rock comeback.” NPR previously named this band one to watch at SXSW 2010.
“Blue Christmas” and “Christmas Time Is Here Again” – Tape Deck Mountain
These two songs are off the band’s digital 7” holiday release, Christmas Was a Total Bummer, which is available for a free download here. Tape Deck Mountain begins a west coast tour on January 18 at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles.
“The Christmas Waltz” and “Here Comes Santa Claus” – The Giving Tree Band & Nellie McKay
According to a press release, these songs were recorded last year after The Giving Tree Band and Nellie McKay performed together at a benefit for Mercy For Animals. The Giving Tree Band has also been hailed for its sustainable initiatives, such as reclaimed-wood instruments and eco-friendly CD packaging.
“Silent Night” and “It’s Christmas and You’re Boring Me” – Slow Club
These tracks are off Slow Club’s recently-released holiday EP, Christmas, Thanks For Nothing. The band performed its third annual Christmas show a few nights ago at Union Chapel in London.
“Santa Baby” and “Last Christmas” – The Puppini Sisters
The Puppini Sisters will be performing live on NPR’s World Cafe later today. Christmas With the Puppini Sisters is available on iTunes.
“Silver Moon” and “A Hard Year” – Jon Hardy & The Public
“A Hard Year” was recently named one of ten best local singles by The Riverfront Times. Look for more of this St. Louis-based band in 2011.
