Courtney Barnett Announces Debut Album and Tour Dates!

New York – Courtney Barnett, the mold-breaking musician out of Melbourne, Australia (and Best New Bands 2014 Newbie Award Winner), is unleashing a double dose of news for anxious fans: new music and a massive North American tour!

The Aussie’s forthcoming debut album, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit is set for release on March 24 (U.S.) Despite there still being weeks before the album drops, Barnett and her music have already drummed up a deluge of public anticipation.

Following the release of single, “Pedestrian at Best,” a new track is now available for those who pre-order the album and an accompanying video is now available for viewing. The song, titled “Depreston,” is comprised of some of Barnett’s most poetic lyrics, wherein several very specific scenes allude to a much larger message surrounding life and death, as well as the decisions and situations we find ourselves in when approaching the responsibilities tied to adulthood. The song’s narrative refers mentions the sadness of an old lady who lived in a house with a disability, against the seemingly callous realism of a real-estate agent: “Aren’t the pressed metal ceilings great / You could knock it down and just start rebuilding.” Videos for both songs are below.

Courtney Barnett and her band The Courtney Barnetts are scheduled to play a long string of shows with a variety of supporting bands, starting in May and continuing through to mid-summer. Acts include Chastity Belt & Darren Hanlon, Spoon and The Decemberists, Belle & Sebastian and The Alabama Shakes.

A few special shows during the SXSW Festival, collaborating with NPR, Pitchfork and Tumblr, will precede the tour. The end of the tour will see Barnett playing at four notable summer festivals: Newport Folk Festival, WayHome Music & Arts Festival, Pitchfork Music Festival and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
