This picture is the image I get when I think of fall in my desert landscape home of Lancaster California. The turning colors of the leaves, the sudden drop in temperature and the re-introduction of sweaters and jackets complete the perfect 3 month equation that is the fall season. Here’s a mellow playlist for fall season that mirrors how most people probably feel during this somber cold season. Weather its going for a long drive through desolate highways and back mountain roads or cozying up to a burning fire with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Enjoy!

1. “Falling From The Sun” – by The Album Leaf: the cryptic and harmonious instrumentation found within this song is pure airy electronica bliss. With its delicate song structure to its somber sing along quality during the chorus, listeners will be hypnotized by Jimmy Levalle’s calm vocal delivery and the overall ambiance of the melodies is perfect for laying down in an empty field of tall grass and getting taken away by the crisp, fall breeze.

2. “Good Friends, Bad Habits” – by Owen: Mike Kinsella, a.k.a. Owen, is known for offering up his sympathetic croon and matter-of-fact honesty in his songs of heartbreak, insecurities and loss. The lead synthesizer part is warm and engaging while Kinsella gracefully laments about the troubled habits and addictions his friends own. The hushed acoustic plucking lays down a solid base for the pleasing melodies in this indie pop ditty that’ll encourage you to toss a couple logs on the fire and cozy up with a steaming hot cup of chocolate.

3. “Rocky Dennis Farewell Song To The Blind Girl”- by Jens Lekman: Inspired by the main character of the 1985 cult classic, “Mask,” Jens Lekman decided to devote a 4-song EP to said character and presented fans with his “Rocky Dennis EP.”  The soft piano playing and the catchy strings make the ideal canopy for Lekman’s deep, melodic vocal chops, while the flute playing is completely outstanding.

4. “Walk In The Park”- by Beach House: the cold organ playing conjures up comparisons to the shivering weather the fall season brings. Victoria Legrand’s calculating voice meshes well with the haunting sensibilities while Alex Scally turns up the moodiness in this fall musical gem. You should literately stroll through your favorite park and get lost in its careful beauty.

5. “Ballad of Theo and June” – by The Softlightes: Every wonder about writing a story about the unlimited future you and your favorite girl can have? Put this song on and listen to the cuddly popness of this indie gem.

6. “The Fashion Show” – by Starflyer 59: Simply put, this song will put a smile on your face and make you sing along to its catchy vocals and plinking piano lines. Jason Martin has a gift for crafting album after album with practicing and perfecting various types of musical styles. Listen to this song with a loved one and practice your singing voice and you just might win a kiss in the cold frigid air.

7. “Broken Ice” – by Umbrellas: “Just like skating on broken ice, with you…I’m treading lightly, I’m watching my step, the ship has sailed,” the blissful chorus from the fourth track off Umbrellas debut album, “Broken Ice,” nicely captures the happy go lucky emotions of beginning a fresh start with a significant other and all the problems that may arise. In case you’re single or get dumped during the fall, you can heal your fragile heart with a few spins of this song.

8. “Hard Rain” – by Shout Out Louds: The driving guitars, the engaging synth line and spot on drumming  introduce this song that’s coupled with harmonic vocals and is sure to be the closer to evenings staying in when its too freezing to tread outside.
