Covered in a purple sequin and fringe dress, that she made sure to shake at every opportunity, Sharon Jones she sprang to life as she took the stage. This woman is not to be missed. Her energy and talent are captivating.
A late starter, she didn’t enter the music industry till her forties. She certainly has made up for lost time. The highlight of her set was her performance of a song she was given as a gift for her fiftieth birthday. As she introduced it, she told the crowd about many personal struggles she had recently gone through, things ranging from her mother’s passing, to a tooth surgery leaving her tongue partly numb, to the jet lag she was having from playing shows all over the place. The under lying message was about strength and courage. It blew me away.
If you ever have an opprtiunity to see Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings, take it.
