A hundred or so people having fun in the rain

Walking into Lolla for day 3, I was greeted by the sounds of Titus Androncious a band I have grown to enjoy so much. I unfortunately was unable to shoot them but did get to enjoy them as I walked over to the stage to see Imelda May. In rockabilly fashion she took the stage to a very hot crowd that endured the heat to enjoy her remarkable vocals.

Lia Ices another amazing vocalist was next on my route. Her soothing dreamy sound fit the audience’s mood perfectly as the majority of the crowd was shaded under the trees swaying blissfully.

That was not so much the case over at the Dale Earnheart Jr Jr set. Having reviewed them a couple days earlier it was great to see such a live and animated crowd truly enjoying every moment of the set.

Flogging Molly’s set did not disappoint and brought the crowd to a elevated pumped up excited state. Heat did not deter this crowd from, moshing, jigging, or drinking as any Flogging Molly show usually has all of the above which only adds to the experience.

After enjoying them I headed over to see Cage the Elephant. In the past couple months, I have had the privilege of shooting and seeing them every chance I got and I recommend that anyone who likes to see a great performance, do the same. After the first couple songs I wondered how these guys don’t just collapse. From running around the stage to jumping into the crowd this band rocks without missing a beat. See them now, before their shows get to hard to get tickets to.

As I headed over to see Best Coast, the skys started to darken and as they took the stage, the skys opened. The crowd stayed to listen in the rain, as it seemed to only encourage people to join the party. As the rain continued, the crowds took advantage of the change in temperature and embraced the weather with dancing and mudsliding.

As Damien Marley and Nas took the stage the rain broke, sun began to shine and rainbows formed. This duo impressed me beyond belief.

Sadly, having to leave their set, my mood was quickly changed as I went to end my night with Manchester Orchestra. Having played 4 previous Lolla’s, the band thanked the fans for helping land them a time slot that the sun was actually down during. This group had fans signing along to many of their favorite songs as well as enjoying new ones off this years new album.

Overall an amazing end to Lollapalooza 2011. Great new bands and many great sets from old favorites.
