I had one goal for the night, to see Miike Snow. They were playing at Lustre Pearl my favorite bar in Austin. The only catch was having to get there several hours before hand and listen through the other three bands. Was it worth the standing and waiting several hours? Yes and no.  The set itself was enjoyable and everything that I expected it to be, but after starting over 30 minutes late I had wanted perfection. It’s a lot to ask any given band to always be on point, but after taking what seemed like a century to get everything set one would assume it was done so correctly. That was not the case, however if they had been set up correctly I feel the overall set would have been close to flawless. They managed to play all the hits, Burial, Animal, Black and Blue, and I was pleased to hear new songs off their newest album that was released yesterday.  The new songs did fit well with the old, while showing some change and obvious growth. There were no stand out dance numbers that one may come to expect out of the group but they were enjoyable.

The real highlight of my night was getting to experience Drop The Lime live. I had been prepared for a dancey electronic bland ok band; instead I got an electronic dance rock rockabilly vibe. They took the stage all in black, all attractive, all ready to play. I want to see this band again, and soon. This is the type of band I want to run home and tell all my friends about and drag them to go see when they are in town.

Penguin Prison and Yacht both were on this showcase, and both played solid sets. Neither really stood out as an “I must listening to this so again” moment, but that’s not to say they crowd didn’t enjoy them both. They just didn’t have anything new to wow me with. Overall day 2 came to a close with a dancing send off of Miike Snow’s song Animal. If you are not familiar with it, it will be a great start to the weekend, to take a listen.
