The annual showcase of artistic awesomeness known as Northside Festival is upon us! Beginning this Thursday, June 16th through Sunday the 19th, this festival of music, film, art, and ideas is taking place all across the north side of Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods in Brooklyn. This festival is one of the reasons that I’m proud to live in this city, as it’s jam-packed with everything that represents the thriving creative culture that is so concentrated here.
Not the least of which is the music aspect. Playing shows are dozens of bands we’ve already covered on BestNewBands.com, such as Asobi Seksu, Air Waves, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Slowdance, Sharon Van Etten, Twin Sister, Thee Oh Sees…really, I could go on. And on and on. Not to mention the more seasoned acts like Beirut and Guided by Voices. Oh yes. There are more than 250 bands across 25 different venues to choose from, so really the only drawback is deciding what to check out when. View the complete schedule here, and try to pace yourself.
Let’s not forget the film showcases, the open studios and gallery exhibitions, and new this year is the Ideas Festival, a series of panels connecting entrepreneurs and artists through discussions on subjects ranging from executing ideas to engaging your community. View the full schedule with all details here.
Ticket prices vary according to the show and venue, and in many cases all advance tickets are already sold out. You can also buy a badge that gets you access to every show taking place on a first come, first served basis, in addition to all film, art, and ideas events. And if that wasn’t enough, badge holders can also get discounts at tons of local bars and restaurants. Totally worth it! Tickets and badges can be purchased here. All showcases and events are in walking distance of each other, so get your venue hopping shoes on and soak it all up.
