Living Things- Putting Life In Music!

LT

It’s Monday morning, and let’s face it- most Monday’s blow.  Instant Monday fix it- and yes, there is indeed actually a remedy for the entire twenty-four hour time slot.  Follow these steps.  Do not pass go, do not collect $200.00.

1.     Head to your local music shop- or itunes depending on your preference.

2.     Very carefully sort through the artists until you find Living Things.

3.     Grab the copy of Habeas Corpus.

4.     Exit, head to your car, and kickstart your track selection with “Mercedes Marxist.”

5.     Sing it loud, sing it proud.

No, seriously- aside from a kick ass debut album and tracks you can’t get out of your head (or stop singing all day- I recommend apologizing to your friends in advance) Living Things are recording as we speak- and their follow-up album has entirely too much potential.

I caught up with Living Things’ bassist Yves Berlin for a little lowdown on what’s up with LT, and their forthcoming CD!

LN:  So now that you’ve taken the music scene by storm with your debut album Habeas Corpus you’re in the studio recording again- what can we expect from your forthcoming CD?

YB:  THE NEW RECORD IS A LOT HEAVIER AND HAS MORE OF A LIVE FEEL.

(Reading the answer, Lauren is already insanely excited.)

LN:  Did any of your main musical influences change with the writing and recording of this cd as opposed to HC?

YB:  TOURING THE PAST YEAR HAS HALF INFLUENCED THE FEEL OF THE RECORD FOR SURE.

LN:  Any Pre-show vices or rituals?

YB:  BLASTING PRE SHOW MIXTAPES IN THE DRESSING ROOM CONSISTING OF TUPAC,BOB MARLEY, AND BODY COUNT

LN:  Favorite/ craziest tour story to date?

YB:  GETTING OUR VAN/TRAILER AND ALL GEAR STOLEN FROM THE HOTEL PARKING LOT IN PHILLY! LAST YEAR.  MAYBE THATS NOT A FUNNY ONE BUT DEF WAS THE CRAZIEST!

LN:  I hope you had that business lo-jacked!

LN:  Any SXSW appearances in the works?

YB:  YES WE PLAN ON BEING THERE PLAYING ALL NEW MUSIC!

LN:  ALL. NEW. MUSIC.  YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

LN:  Collaborations are a never-ending trend in the music world- who would you like to collaborate with if given the option- pick your poison!

YB:  LIVING –  ICE CUBE      DIED –  TUPAC

LN:  In your song “Oxygen” it states “one love to my love, one compromise- I know your blood tastes like wine”- hoping to jump on the aerobically challenged vampire trend with that one?

YB:  WHO DOESNT ENJOY A NICE GLASS …..

LN:  How did you all come together to form Living Things?

YB:  WE ARE ALL BROTHERS .. SO I GUESS OUR MOTHERS  WOMB DID. HA!

LN:  When the topsy turvy and ever-unstable music industry gets you down- what’s your fave pick me up?

YB:  I TRY NOT TO GET  INVOLVED IN THE BUSINESS OF MUSIC.

LN:  Smart.  Insanely smart.

LN:  When are you coming to raise hell in the city of angels?!

YB :  WE ARE HERE AT THE MOMENT … MAYBE WE WILL.

So now that you’ve remedied your mundane Monday syndrome with a little impromptu in the car concert, flip through the tracks.  Notice how “oxygen” makes your heart race?  Feel a little retro rock awesomeness with “let it rain?”  Insanely excited for LT’s forthcoming CD?  Me too.

Can’t get enough of the four boys just yet?  Head over to www.myspace.com/livingthings to get your fix, fast, before the new music take over.  Come on you’ve “made up your mind, yeah (you’re) out of your mind- you want the good life”- so get that with a little LT!
