London – ATTU are a new band based in London who floated into existence off the back of singer Stefan Atoinette’s previous band Delta/Alaska. Named after an area of The Last Frontier (Attu Island is about as far North West as you can go without speaking Russian), Stefan is joined by Chike Newman (samples/laptop),Timothy Earl (guitar/synth) and his sister Michelle (bass/synths).
“Don’t Sleep” proceeds a full debut EP expected in early 2014 and in a word, is brilliant. The sound is akin to a Passion Pit / Bon Iver / Delphic mash up and takes you on your own little ethereal wandering. The samples layer up to create a mellow vibe with Stefan’s vocals blissfully meandering through the spaces created by the synths as they wash in and out like waves on a North American beach. If anything, the track’s only fault is its length which should definitely be longer. Like, maybe an hour or two.
ATTU released an earlier concept EP, ‘IV’, which can be listened to for free on their site if you need more of their sound, with the band currently pulling together material for the aforementioned release at the start of next year. On “Don’t Sleep” Atoinette sings “I’ve got joy and you’ve got revelry”, after listening to the track on repeat now for a good few weeks, he’s right. Colour me revelrous.
