Are you looking for a Christmas celebration unlike your run of the mill unwrapping of gifts? Well, Grouch can help you with that. Tomorrow, the “How the Grouch Stole Christmas” Tour will be coming to the Independent in San Francisco. Along with Grouch, Eligh, Brother Ali, Los Rakas, DJ Fresh, and DJ Snuggles will be rocking the stage for a Christmas show that even Santa would bounce to.
Grouch is a Bay area rapper with more than a decade’s worth of lyricism under his belt. Don’t Talk to Me, Grouch’s first album, came out in 1995. Since then he’s dropped 11 more solo albums and 7 collaborations with his partner in crime, Eligh, and the hip hop duo Zion I. Both Grouch and Eligh are also a part of the infamous Living Legends, along with Murs and Aesop Rock. G&E and The CMA are other monikers both rappers release music under. DJ Fresh will be backing Grouch during his set and Eligh will be keeping it solo.
Brother Ali hails from Wisconsin’s capital. The Islamic rapper’s most recent success came from 2009′s The Truth is Here, which featured a song with Slug from Atmosphere. Brother Ali’s lyrics pull from personal experiences in his life, such as divorce, death and homelessness. He states legendary KRS-One as being one of his influences, so you can only imagine the hot fire he spits once a mic is in his hand. DJ Snuggles will be mixing for Brother Ali during his performance, which will make for a great performance.
And now we come to Los Rakas. This Panama duo raps in both English and Spanish while mixing hip hop, dancehall and reggae to make their cultured sound. They are fairly new to the music scene, but already have a hit with their song “Abrazame” which features sultry San Francisco songstress Faviola. Los Rakas has mostly played shows along the western side of the states and can be booked for personal celebrations like birthdays and school events.
The combination of musicians on this tour will give you many variations of hip hop. From seasoned rappers like Grouch and Eligh to those somewhat green to the scene like Los Rakas, the show will grace you with infectious beats and meaningful lyrics rap along to. The tour will continue through the end of December and tour dates can be found here.
