If you were a teenager in the mid- to late 90s, you probably remember The Get Up Kids in their heyday, before the genre “emo” became so distorted with the cringe- worthy connotations it has now. After making music for about a decade, they called it quits as a band but many members went on to different projects, such as The New Amsterdams, Hellogoodbye, and Spoon. They reunited in honor of the tenth anniversary of what many fans cite as their best album, Something to Write Home About. They have gone and released two more albums since then, the latest being There Are Rules. To be honest, I haven’t paid much attention to their later albums, but I would check out this show at Webster Hall just to re-live some 90s emo nostalgia if I weren’t getting a fresh taste of Tennis at Bowery Ballroom.

Their show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday has already sold out, so this is your last chance to get in on some Get Up action. Tickets are $25 in advance, and $30 day of. Show is at 8pm for a 16+ crowd. Miniature Tigers and Brian Bonz support.
You can get acquainted with some of their new material on their Myspace, since as much as many fans would like to hear all the good oldies, they have to play SOME new tunes. This appears to be their latest video for the single “Automatic,” off the new album:
