Friday night is tantalizing close, but for some small-town residents the options for celebrating the coming of the weekend can be very limited. Fortunately for those in Eugene, the historic WOW Hall has some great entertainment lined up: the lively, triple-threat lineup of Lynx, Medium Troy and MarchFourth Marching Band.
Opening the show will be 25-year-old Lynx, a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist/beat-boxer/producer originally from Colorado who now resides in the Bay Area. She describes her sound as indie, hobo noveau, electronica and pop, switching from folky to cutting-edge before melting into raw, melancholy melodies. Lynx appeared at the Oregon Country Fair last summer as one half of the duo Lynx & Janover; she’s also toured the world, playing events in the US, Asia, Canada and Europe. Her latest album, On the Horizon, blends powerful vocals, infectious pop hooks and lyrics that are both catchy and thought-provoking. But don’t take my word for it – take a listen to some of her music below:
They used to be known as Eugene’s unofficial “Kings of the WOW Hall,” but now Medium Troy has a new, cross-country title to uphold: BestNewBands.com’s Best Artist of 2010. Their “bohemian dub” music blends reggae, funk, dub, electronica, hip-hop and alternative rock into a truly unique sound. Medium Troy’s latest, the Space Tree EP, was released back in December as a free download on the band’s Facebook page. MT’s very good about interacting with their devoted fans, known as the “Squirrel Crew” (because “kids are kind of squirrely,” as lead singer JoJo Ferreira put it); the guys recently solicited video ideas/clips from the Squirrel Crew to create a music video for the song “Space Tree.”

Co-headlining tomorrow night will be MarchFourth Marching Band, another made-in-Oregon musical sensation. Like Lynx and Medium Troy, this band of 20+ strong is an Oregon Country Fair favorite that’s grown its fan base to more than 7,500 on Facebook alone – and with an ensemble of saxaphones, trombones, trumpets, drums, stilt-walkers and flag twirlers, there’s plenty to “like” about M4. The group’s 2005 self-titled debut album has sold 10,000 copies to date, and their latest album, 2009′s Rise Up, was described by Boulder Weekly as “a wild album [that's] insanely fun to listen to.” To fully understand what all the hype is about, just watch this video:
Make sure to look for MarchFourth Marching Band at SXSW later this year.
