With the entire West Coast basically a victim to dark, angry, furrowed-browed storm clouds, the release of Foxes in Fiction’s new EP, Alberto couldn’t have been better timed. Dropping this week in the wake of Warren Hildebrand’s (the brain behind Foxes in Fiction) first full-length album, Swung From The Branches, this 7-track EP translated better to me than the formidably long, 20-track Swung From The Branches. Alberto is more concrete and corporeal and was a perfect winter listen. If you’re sitting back in the grey and needing a sound to snuggle up to, this is your album—it is meant to be enjoyed indoors with the smell of rain wafting through your window.
The sound is reminiscent of a more organic Radiohead; it is not so overtly digital and is resonant with echoing vocals and reeling sounds. It is slow paced and contemplative; it is ethereal and transcendent without being too impossible to relate to.
While there is no real standout track, Alberto blurs together seamlessly and washes over you hypnotically, so get ready to get lost when listening.
