So the O.C. established season of chrismukkah has come and gone and it’s officially time to usher in a new season of CD’s. Enter the Klaxon’s 2008 “Landmarks Of Lunacy” which was finally released on Christmas day- just in time to welcome twenty-eleven, a year when retro is still the new, new- but with a bit of an edge.
Now the Klaxons’ hit “Golden Skans” was undeniably addictive- but don’t let the once one hit wonder discredit their latest addition to the music realm- which is just as entrancing.
Most worthy of at least a couple listens are tracks “Silver Forest” and “Wildeflowers,” the latter strangely reminiscent of Air’s “Playground Love” in the intro.
Now with all the NYE insanity and everyone’s willingness to party like it’s 1999, you’d think I’d be adversely affected by the ambient retro rock infused album, but instead- I’m all about a little R and R (obviously, or I wouldn’t be south of the border bound for NYE!)
With the Klaxons latest release “Surfing The Void” (released this past August) having a bit more of an upbeat sound, there’s something very refreshing about “Landmarks of Lunacy” and its very soothing, even retrospective, sound.
The best news a girl or guy can get in the midst of post Christmas debt? The album is completely downloadable, for free on their website! Happy holidays indeed, Klaxons.
