“Like an invitation you weren’t expecting to get, Atlas Genius knocks on your door and creeps into your peripheries in stealth mode,” said Neon Gold shortly after the then-unsigned new band put “Trojans“ on SoundCloud last year, offering it for sale via TuneCore on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. “Fair warning: ‘Trojans’ will invade your head, all dressed up in a clever disguise of earnest vocals riding a hooky riff.”
The Adelaide, Australia-based indie band has since signed with Warner Bros. Records, which will release its debut EP, Through The Glass, on June 12. The three-song collection will include Atlas Genius‘ breakout hit “Trojans,” which had sold more than 45,000 downloads in the U.S. alone before the band was even signed and new music. The band members are currently at work in their home studio on their full-length debut, which is due out this fall. U.S. tour dates will be announced soon.
“Trojans” on Soundcloud
“Trojans” was named an iTunes “Single of the Week” in Australia and New Zealand. Stateside, things blew up in early 2012 for Atlas Genius, despite minimal promotional efforts from the unsigned band. “Trojans” spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the listener-generated Alt-18 countdown of SiriusXM’s Alt-Nation while single sales skyrocketed past 45,000 and an acoustic video of “Trojans” premiered on MTV2 and the home pages of MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hive and MTV Buzzworthy. Finally, after months of communicating with numerous record labels via Skype, Atlas Genius came to the U.S. in February 2012 for meetings and, ultimately, they chose to sign with Warner Bros. Records.
Stay tuned for great things.
