This Saturday, November 27th, Maxwell’s in Hoboken New Jersey will be home to some of the freshest vintage soul I’ve heard in a long time. While that statement may seem oxymoronic and bizarre, I assure you that nine-piece band The One & Nines will clear up any confusion with their ultra hip and polished blend of old school Motown, soul, funk, and R&B. When I first heard their song ‘Just Your Fool’, I thought it was written released in the early 1960′s. I really can’t decide what I like more: the sound and feel of the ultra-tight band, or the creamy blend of male and female vocals. It’s a difficult and beautiful decision to make, and I listened to the song over and over again until I had learned the lyrics and all of the delightful Motown-inspired background vocalizations. The One & Nines is a group that audiences young and old can relate to and enjoy, and according to their many YouTube videos, they’re just as good live as they are in the studio. Their seven-track eponymous EP is now available on iTunes, but if you’re in the Hoboken area next Saturday, be sure to check out the new old school group whose songs are guaranteed to be stuck in your head for hours and days to come (in a good way).
