This Friday, November 5, Dr. Dog will be gracing the stage at the Wiltern Theater and it’s definitely a show to see.  Now that Halloween’s long gone it’s time to chillax with Indie rockers Dr. Dog- and those underage are in luck, as there’s no age requirement for this one!  Tickets are about $36.00 and are well worth it!  Hope to see you all there.

Sometimes you hear a song, and you understand how it came together right away. Usually, it’s pretty cut and dry: either the music or the lyrics tell you how the artist was feeling when they wrote the song. That’s not the case with either Thievery Corporation or Massive Attack; both groups possess the uncanny ability to create deep textures and feelings with their music that are unlike any other you’ve ever heard or felt. When I first heard Thievery Corporation, I was bowled over by the dark, brooding immediacy of their songs. They are all very unique, but they are all dripping with sex appeal and a devil-may-care attitude that can’t be faked or produced. I couldn’t believe that the immense outpouring of emotion and ultra-hip beats was produced by just two people: Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. The dynamic duo has been making music together for more than 15 years, and they’re still at the top of their game. Within Thievery Corporation, there are no rules; their blend of dub, world, psychedelic, and lounge contains an endless number of guest vocalists and instrumentalists that create an infinite number of feelings within and between songs. Their latest album It Takes a Thief was released in September, and is now available on iTunes.

Massive Attack is another duo that interchanges other instrumentalists and vocalists as often as other people change clothes. British production duo Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall came together in the late 1980′s, and they’re considered one of the pioneering bands of the trip hop genre. Where Thievery Corporation tends to lean towards world influences and the occasional rare vocal sample, Massive Attack tends toward hip hop and spaced out electronica. Their latest album Helgioland was released this past February, and it is also available on iTunes. See how they fare live at Gibson Amphiteatre this Sunday, November 7th. Apparently there will be several guests yet to be announced, who knows who might show up?

If you’re in Hollywood and want to see the two duos duel it out for the top dog spot in their genre, then this show is for you. Catch these two incredible groups now before they head down to Mexico and then on to South America. I missed Thievery Corporation once, and I won’t make the same mistake again. I was told by friends who went to the show that it was a full-bodied visual and aural experience that they won’t soon forget.
