A-Trak by Terry Richardson

Los Angeles – Founded by A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs and responsible for bringing the world releases by artists such as Kid Cudi, Danny Brown, Duck Sauce, and Run the Jewels, Fool’s Gold Records is one of the premier underground electronic and hip-hop labels in the world. The label is known for its independent spirit and an uncanny knack for finding those aforementioned genres’ hottest up and coming talent. Fool’s Gold Day Off has been a tradition in New York for years and has expanded to the West Coast, specifically the Exposition Park neighborhood in South Los Angeles.

______

Towkio

Towkio has had some high-profile collaborators, including Kaytranada, Chance the Rapper, and Vic Mensa – the latter two being childhood friends of the rapper. In 2015 he self-released his debut .wav Theory, and while it may not reach the level of acclaim of Acid Rap or the Innanetape mixtape, it is a promising debut.

______
Post Malone

With a smooth flow and an ear for complementary beats, Post Malone is one of the fastest-rising names in underground hip-hop. His single “White Iverson” has garnered considerable buzz across the internet and has a stylish music video. With only a handful of recorded tracks, it will be interesting to see how Post Malone fills up his entire set.

______
Travi$ Scott

Fresh off of a high-profile appearance on-stage during Kanye West’s last-minute FYF Fest headlining set, Travi$ Scott will be near the top of the billing for Fool’s Gold Day Off Los Angeles. Unfortunately for music fans at Lollapalooza, his set at that festival was cut short when he encouraged fans to climb over the barricades – resulting in his arrest. He’ll most likely not have that same issue at this much-smaller mini-festival, so be sure to stick around for his set.

______
Action Bronson

At this point anyone paying attention to hip-hop knows the story of Action Bronson – he’s a physical and musical giant, he sounds a whole lot like a certain Wu-Tang Clan legend, and he loves to make food metaphors (or rap about food in a literal manner). While those qualities seemed like a bit of a shtick, it is impossible to deny the kind of impact Action Bronson, aka Flushing, Queen’s Arian Asllani has had through mix-tapes like Blue Chips I & II and Dr. Lecter.

Coming off of the release of Mr. Wonderful (Vice) in March of this year, Action Bronson will headline the Fool’s Gold Day Off West Coast edition. Despite the fact that he has been steadily releasing music since the beginning of the decade, the album is considered his debut. Be sure to stick around for his set on Saturday!

Fool’s Gold Day Off is located at the Shrine Expo Hall & Grounds located at 665 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Los Angeles. The festival is also headed to Atlanta (09/05), New York (09/07), Miami (09/13), and Austin (09/19) – each city’s lineup is slightly different, with headliners like Earl Sweatshirt, Flosstradamus, Meek Mill, and A-Trak. Head to the Fool’s Gold Day Off website to find more information and buy tickets.

Matt Matasci

Perhaps it was years of listening to the eclectic and eccentric programming of KPIG-FM with his dad while growing up on the Central Coast of California, but Matt Matasci has always rebuffed mainstream music while seeking unique and under-the-radar artists.Like so many other Californian teenagers in the 90s and 00s, he first started exploring the alternative music world through Fat Wreck Chords skate-punk.This simplistic preference eventually matured into a more diverse range of tastes - from the spastic SST punk of Minutemen to the somber folk-tales of Damien Jurado, and even pulverizing hardcore from bands like Converge. He graduated from California Lutheran University with a BA in journalism.Matt enjoys spending his free time getting angry at the Carolina Panthers, digging through the dollar bin at Amoeba, and taking his baby daughter to see the Allah-Lahs at the Santa Monica Pier.
