The 5 Must-See Aftershows At Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza-12-After-Shows

One of the treats of Lollapalooza are the after-hours shows that scattered throughout the Windy City. This year is no different. Some of the biggest names that’ve graced the stage in Grant Park earlier in the day will be playing at some of the most intimate venues in the city. While most of the bigger names have sold out their respective shows, there are still a few tickets remaining. That being said, here are the must-see Lollapalooza after-hours gigs:

band-of-horses

Band of Horses/Michael Kiwanuka, Thurs. August 2, 7:00 pm, Metro: Is there a better way to kick off the weekend than to start with this show? Having been to the Metro before, this is could be the ultimate intimate gigs for fans of Band of Horses. With their latest album, Mirage Rock, slated for a Sept 18 release, don’t be surprised to hear a slew of new songs. Oh, and that Kiwanuka guy isn’t too shabby either, as we showed in our Artist of the Week and album review.

passion-pit

Passion Pit w/ GIVERS, Kishi Bashi, Thurs. August 2, 8:00 pm, House of Blues: Though it starts an hour after the Band of Horses show, Passion Pit’s show is going to be quite interesting. Despite needing some time off for personal reasons, expect Michael Angelakos to bring his best at this intimate gig. On the heels of their acclaimed album, Gossamer, which just came out this week, expect the Massachusetts natives to give a high energy show that will leave people pleased.

frank-ocean-2012

Frank Ocean, Fri. August 3, 11:00 pm, Metro: Probably the hardest show to get into, expect Ocean’s set to be hands down one of the most talked about sets of the weekend. His album channel ORANGE is already in the pantheon of legendary debuts, even though it’s been out for only a couple of weeks. Expect this to be one of the hardest tickets to attain, yet could be one of the true highlights of the weekend.

ofmonsterandmen560

Of Monsters and Men w/ Yellow Ostrich, Sat. August 4, 10:00 pm, House of Blues: A longtime favorite, the Icelandic rockers bring their catchy brand of rock to the sold-out HOB. Though the hype has died down a bit since their first headlining North American tour back in April, the band is sure to win over the lucky fans who will pack the venue.

garyclark1

Gary Clark Jr. w/LP, Sat. August 4, 11:00 pm, Schubas: The Austin, TX-based guitar extraordinaire has been making the rounds for a while now, but Lollapalooza could be his breakthrough, as if that hasn’t happened already. On the heels of his acclaimed performance at Coachella, Clark’s mix of heavy riffs with a soulful, yet rockin’ voice has won over fans and critics alike. This performance should be no different.
