Countdown To CMJ- The Bamboo Kids!

BambooKids

The Bamboo Kids have a very eclectic sound.  The kind you can easily rock out to, have in the background, or just sing along guilty pleasure karaoke style and not even be ashamed about.  (Seriously- I dare you NOT to sing along to “Daylight Be Damned.”)

Getting amped and ready for CMJ (which is strangely the cause of the totally awesome trio) I pen-pal-ed it up with the cyber savvy Dwight Weeks to get the 411 on The Bamboo Kids before their CMJ shows!

BNB:  Your main musical influences as a band?
DW:  Clash, Dolls, Springsteen, Stones, Ramones, Iggy, Lou Reed. All the usual rock and rollers.

BNB:  How did the band form?
DW:  We were another band with a fourth member who went junkie on us and (ironically? coincidentally?) failed to turn up at our CMJ gig. We played as a three piece that night, liked it, fired the guy, took a few months off to organize our sound and came back as the Bamboo Kids. Hooray for drugs and CMJ!

BNB:  CMJ is right around the corner. Any pre-show vices or rituals?
DW:  Vice? Jack Daniel’s. Ritual? Try like hell to remember the songs.

BNB: These are going swimmingly for you.

BNB:  Who are you excited to see at CMJ (aside from yourselves, of course!)?
DW:  I don’t know any other bands playing. I don’t go out much.

BNB:  What’s up next in 2011?  Touring, recording?
DW:  We’re going to record some more tracks in a few months.  Somebody said there was a chance we would go to Japan, but I’ll believe when I’m there.

BNB:  Biggest musical accomplishment as a group this year so far?
DW:  Our a capella three part harmony opening to our cover of Falco’s “Kiss of Kathleen Turner”. Took forever to get right.

BNB:  Favorite guilty pleasure song you love to rock out to?
DW:  Why would anyone feel guilty about liking something?

BNBI know several Justin Beiber fans who could answer that for you!

BNB:  For those that haven’t had the chance to head to CMJ before, any advice for the newbies you can offer?

DW:  Stop taking gigs they don’t pay you for.

BNB:  That is some serious sage advice right there.

For all those lucky enough to attend CMJ in about a week be sure to check the BK’s out when they play the Hello Music showcase on Wednesday, October 20 at Ace Of Clubs (alongside Gamble & Burke I might add!)  Bring your most awesome rock out all night shoes though because when you see the lineup, there’s now way you’ll be staying still for long!
