Our friend and former Artist in Residence, Ehren Ebbage, will be playing next week with Krista Polvere, opening for Aqualung at the Bootleg Theater in LA. He agreed to interview Krista before the big show, and here it is for you…
Krista Polvere has done well for herself over the past few years; she moved from Australia to New York a while back and within months she was recording with Grammy-winning producer Malcom Burn and writing with Ryan Adams. Krista is living in Australia again and she is about to embark on a 12-city US tour opening for Aqualung. I get to play guitar for her on this tour and, seeing as we’re going to be in the confined space of a tour bus for a couple of weeks, I thought I should ask a few questions.
Are you going to fight for the top bunk on the tour bus?
Ha no the bottom one! I do not envisage much fighting. I seem to be blessed to be surrounded by some placid lovely men on this tour, what more could a gal ask for?
Are you going to make us listen to your favorite music? If so, what will that be?
I have a feeling there is going to be some singing and playing on the bus. We will start off with ‘The wheels on the bus go round and round’…the medley will go on from there. But I will also be quietly listening to the Crazy Heart soundtrack, the new BRMC record, some Danzig when I feel the urge to get rowdy and some Tom Waits possibly.
Do you like to eat smelly food?
NO! I will be avoiding any food that smells, crawls, bites, is hairy or the like.
Do you know any good jokes?
No, I am a sad case when it comes to remembering jokes but I can dance like a chimpanzee and swing from the bus roof.
Will it freak you out to be driving on the right side of the road?
YES. I wont be driving but none the less it will be confusing.
Do you sleepwalk?
No…lucky about that, and I do not talk in my sleep either. This is really going to be like a big sleep over. I feel like a kid again.
Your record ‘And Here Be Dragons’ is dark and moody. Your new songs are more cheerful. Are you going to be moody or cheerful on the bus?
Yes you can expect a more cheerful Krista Polvere. My new material is over all more cheerful I agree but there are still some dark and introspective songs in there. So I consider this more “well rounded” of the sorts.
We might have trouble finding Vegemite in the Midwest. Will you be upset?
No as long as there is peanut butter I wont complain. Vegemite is not a staple of mine although I do like it a lot. I can reconstitute with other favourites.
