This Sunday evening, Chris Mansfield, aka the 27 year old singer/songwriter known as Fences, will be bringing his brand of indie melancholy to The Golden West Cafe.
I interviewed Chris for BestNewBands.com last year (see the full interview here), and he had this to say about creating songs that have endings, “When I’m writing, I guess I intentionally do stuff like that. It’s a privilege to think that maybe I’ll say this and it’ll resonate. That’s definitely a new experience and it changes things. I like the song to be metaphorically ‘wrapped up’ and for there to be a statement, whether it’s a good one or a bad one. It’s really nice to create something simple that people get.”
To all of the East Coast Fences fans, this will be your last chance to see him on tour before Bonnaroo, so head out and catch him. If not, go out and pick up Fences, the Sara Quin-produced album that made us fall in love with Chris.
