Dear Sunny So Cal,

It’s been two months since I was able to complain in person about the sweltering, suffocating three digit temperatures.  I wasn’t a carmageddon casualty.  I celebrated independence day in the country we declared independence from.  All this in pursuit of great (not good, I’m talking I still have that song on repeat kind of awesomeness) music.

It wasn’t an easy weekend for me.  In fact, I was almost a little homesick for bands like Fight From Above and Saint Motel.  Then I got wind that The Killers’ drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. started a side project called Big Talk and I was perfectly happy being 5,000 miles away from said Killers’ spawned solo act.

Then, I discovered a sweet little tunage care of British born band Bastille, and I was instantaneously hooked by their electro infused Mumford & Sons style song “Flaws,” whose lyrics are unabashedly dark and appropriately point blank.  I had the aforementioned jam along with their song “Icarus” on heavy rotation for the better part of my Sunday and was enjoying every minute of it.  (Listen HERE!)

Though their song “Laura Palmer” reminds me a little too much of a similar song by “A Silent Film” the other two were not only entirely original but have me waiting with breath that is baited for more.  All you lucky Londoners can catch them at 93 Feet East on August 5!  All you kids from the city of angels can join me in penning a strongly worded letter of petition to their management begging them for a little state-side action.  These guys will catch on just as quickly as Mumford & Sons did- so get on the bandwagon before everyone and their mother does.  You’ve been warned.

Sincerely,
