BestNewBands.com Premiere: Sherpa – “It’s All Good G”

Sherpa-Band

This year has been one of mind-altering psychedelic rock, and Tame Impala has led the way with its hazy, disorienting sound. But there’s another band to look out for from Down Under, and they’re called Sherpa.

Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, the psychedelic/power-pop quartet implements dizzying, reverbed guitars, layered instrumentation, and droning synthesizers, but these psych-poppers trade in hypnotic instrumental bridges and long-form songs for infectious hooks and saccharine sweet vocal melodies. The result is vivacious, to-the-point pop songs with an added element of dreamy reverb and drone.

Today, we are excited to premiere “It’s All Good G,” the latest single off the four-piece’s self-released debut album, Lesser Flamingo, which is slated for a U.S. release in the beginning of 2013. The track begins with sparkling guitars and a prominent bass line, creating a buoyant sea of sound for singer Early Sans’ breathy vocals to float atop. Halfway through, the song seamlessly changes tempo and timing as the band cranks up the reverb and slows the pace. By the end, the structure shifts a third time but the steady bass line ensures the track never lost its path.

Listen to “It’s All Good G” below and keep your eyes and ears peeled for Sherpa in 2013.
