The last time I caught Air Waves was last year at Zebulon, and when I briefly met singer/songwriter Nicole Schneit after the show, she told me that she was moving to Texas. I was bummed that I had just discovered her band and now she was moving away, but I picked up their self-titled EP and was assured that their full length would be finished soon. Well, it looks like Air Waves is back, and with their new album too. Tuesday night at Glasslands they will play their CD release show, with Amy (Titus Andronicus), Soft Landing, and Inoculist also on the lineup.
The EP was largely a solo acoustic effort for Nicole, but from what I’ve heard of the new album reflects more electric guitar and a fuller band sound. Nicole’s lyrics are still simple, unpretentious poetic stories, and the music still has that easygoing rolling along quality that Air Waves does so well. This is music that fans of Neil Young and Real Estate alike can appreciate. I thought Air Waves put on a great show last year, and they’re only getting better.
Tickets are only $8 in advance, or $10 day of show. Glasslands is a 21+ venue. You can check out Air Waves’ tour on their Myspace, and watch this video of them playing at Northside Fest a couple years ago:
