Stroik has been receiving praise for his charmingly lo-fi bedroom recordings, and today we are excited to premiere “James,” the third single from the North Carolina-based songwriter. Where his previously released songs featured quaint keyboard sounds, this track centers on vigorously strummed guitar chords and robotic drum machines/claps.
“’James,’ is a gesture of home for those who feel they need it,” Stroik explains. “It is not directed to one person or group or class, but to those in the light. It is the swan song to defeat.” The young musician has spent the last four years working in a New England factory and recorded these songs on weekends when he was able to make it down to NYC and work with Bruce Driscoll (Blondfire) at his home studio. Each song was finished in the course of a single day. This sense of urgency encompasses the tracks but does not hinder them. Instead, it gives them a nice, upbeat energy that makes these perfect additions to this year’s summer mixtapes.
