Fresh off their triumphant showing at SXSW, Typhoon returns to Portland for what is sure to be a hell of a show. The indie pop orchestra, which comprises a startling 12 members, will play a benefit show for MercyCorps Japan Relief at the Doug Fir tonight with And And And and Brainstorm.
If you liked the Polyphonic Spree but thought they were just a liiitttle too much, you’ll love Typhoon. And if you like Conor Oberst’s plaintive songwriting but want to feel happy instead of down, you’ll really love Typhoon. Listen here, folks, for true epic beauty. This track, “The Honest Truth” is from Typhoon’s new album A New Kind of House, which came out in early March.
After seeing so many (great) bands with a lead singer/bass/guitar/drum configuration, Typhoon’s many pieces form a refreshing and exciting sound. After listening to A New Kind of House, all I want is more Typhoon.
See them tonight at the Doug Fir. It’s only $12 and the proceeds benefit a great cause. You can purchase A New Kind of House here for the low price of $3.50!
