If you’re in the San Diego area, or maybe escaping the LA doomsday that will ensue with the closing of the formidable 405, head on out to the Tin Can Alehouse on Saturday, July 16th for some awesome live music.  Playing that night is Los Coyotes, Allah-Las (who wowed me when I saw them open

Okkervil River I found myself back at The Wiltern last night to check out yet another of the venue’s repeatedly rocking lineups.  On the bill for last night were NewVillager, Titus Andronicus, and Okkervil River.  So, I paid too much for parking ($15, seriously?) and headed in amongst hoards of flannelled, plaid-ed boys.

Early shows in the summer always feel strange to me, since it’s just so bright outside. Last night (or day), I checked out the early show at Mercury Lounge where Other Lives played, with Ravens & Chimes as support. Even though I was going out to a show when the sun still seemed too high

Last night was the first of two sold out shows for Little Scream and The Antlers in New York; this one at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. I had caught the very end of Little Scream, aka Laurel Sprengelmeyer’s set when she opened for Land of Talk at Bowery Ballroom last fall, giving me

Last night, I found myself back at Los Angeles’ Troubadour—my seeming home away from home.  On this uncharacteristically chilly night, I was there to see Buffalo Tom, an Boston-based band who just released their 10th album, Skins. I had given the album a few good listens, and dug the solid rock feel, so I was

The Black Angels in a haze of awesomeness. On Saturday night, I had the chance to see The Black Angels, Cold Cave, and The Kills at The Fox Theater in Pomona.  So I drove east to the city, parked in a somewhat scary parking lot, and headed into the theater which looked a lot like

This past Friday, May 13th (yes, Friday the 13th) I caught The Twilight Singers and Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s at the ballroom in Webster Hall. This is a bigger venue that I don’t frequent often, since it usually falls outside the realm of where new and emerging bands play, but tonight it

This past Saturday night, May 7th, I headed down to the House of Blues in Anaheim to check out Portugal. The Man in concert for the second time.  The first time I saw this strangely wonderful band play was last October at the El Rey, and I was relatively unfamiliar with their stuff.  Now wholly

Another night, another amazing concert. Let me just start by saying, I never cease to be blown away by the amount of talent abounding in the fine city of Los Angeles.  That said, I found myself once again at the always cozy Troubadour this past Saturday night to see Voxhaul Broadcast, Family of the Year,
