Berlin – The record label Muttis Mischkonsum has only been around for a few short years, but during that time has made quite an impact in Berlin featuring a slew of artists that celebrate the diversity of music and the spirit of the artistic mecca of the moment. With their diverse offering and eclectic roster of artists, Muttis Mischkonsum has cultivated a following by staying grounded in the music and allowing their artists to expand organically. One of the artists on their label that has gained considerable traction after only a few releases is Marquez Lux.
Hailing from the city of Potsdam originally, Marquez Lux has become a fixture in the Berlin music scene and the entire country of Germany. Initially, the producer and DJ began his musical career under the alias Abudtone producing beats and instrumentals for other artists. Under this moniker, Lux released a couple of albums (Lost in Nirvana, Flashstrumentals) that showcased his skills as a lover of old school hip-hop, chillout, and experimental music. In 2012, he released his first EP through Muttis Mischkonsum, which further expanded his sound and introduced him to a different audience.
Night Visions introduced the young DJ to the Berlin scene and Germany at large via four tracks of deep house and electronica that made an impact immediately upon reception. Lux continued to grow as an artist once enlisted by other groups to put his own spin on their music. His abilities as a producer can be heard on remixes for other groups, including Housemate (“Always Here For You”), Miami Horror (“Real Slow”) and Busy P (“This Song”). Further expanding his fan base via sets overseas in Asia (Hanoi, Saigon, Bangkok), Marquez Lux has an upcoming release that is set to prove his versatility as a DJ that is just as capable in the house genre.
Drop It drops on April 8 and the EP serves up four tracks that deliver for fans of deep and tech house. All four tracks cover a lot of ground sonically, with the last track, “Osmosis,” carrying the considerable musical heft that will take the Lux sound to a different plane. Deep, dark, and with enough BMPs to satisfy anyone on the dance floor, this will undoubtedly be the track that makes its way onto the playlists of many fans of the genre just in time for summer.
