Interview with Matt and Mike of Letting Up Despite Great Faults
Letting Up Despite Great Faults is the musical brainchild of Mike Lee, a project that he describes as both inspired by and steeped in nostalgia. Upon listening, it’s hard not hear the often bittersweet reverie or the connection to the Blonde Redhead song that inspired the name of the indie electo-pop project. I spoke to both Mike and guitarist Matt Salas over the weekend at Matt’s house in Silverlake while they were taking a much-needed break from shooting the music video for “Teenage Tide“. It’s the the third track on their Paper Crush EP, which was just released in the US yesterday. We talked about the EP as well as the full length album to follow, and their upcoming performance at Truck-It Fest. After we recorded the interview Saturday, I made it to The Echo to see them open for fellow BestNewBands.com alum Active Child‘s Monday night residency. The place was absolutely packed for their energetic 9pm set, and the audience equally halved into devoted fans singing along to the lyrics and newcomers shouting out “Who are you guys?” followed by “You rock!”. Be sure to watch the interview above as well as the charming music video for “Our Younger Noise” below. Los Angeles readers will definitely recognize their city, and don’t miss the cameo appearance by The Satellite!
