These guys are fresh off their July 12th release of their second full length album, When Fish Ride Bicycles. The album is a fresh, young sound in hip-hop, with an upbeat feel perfect for summer and a body-moving blend of dirty bass and funky electro sounds. Lyrically, The Cool Kids are all over the map: sometimes, they have the generic rapper tongue, rhyming about cars, money, and women; other times, they have hilariously kid-like lyrics, such as in their hometown homage, “Bundle Up.” They’re a cool mix of Kanye’s musicality, the dark wit of Big Boi from Outkast, with little hint of that Will-Smith-flat-topped-fresh-faced-funk. If you’re at Audiotistic, be sure to catch their set.
