So in case you were a little confused about the rumors saying the key club was closing- let me assure you it is not only up and running, it is perpetually packed! With consistently amazing lineups, I had no doubt last night’s show would be more than awesome, and just as I suspected Slash annihilated his set maintaining grace in the midst of music mayhem.
With people flocking from the perimeter to center stage akin to moths to light just to be that much closer to the famed guitarist I had to fight to hold my ground! But four feet away from Slash, trying to make sense of the chaos around me it finally hit me when the first few notes of “Sweet Child Of Mine” were played- I was in the presence of a rock legend! It was as though aging only amplifies his sound and stage presence, and the rock legend handled the guitar like it had literally become an appendage of his body (you’re all shocked to hear that, I’m sure!)
Myles Kennedy served as the perfect accoutrement to Slash’s heavy rock rhythms and when the age-old GNR ballads started up, the now mesmerized crowd was tune entranced and lured even closer to the onstage stars.
Aside from the GNR tracks, Slash (who wears his sunglasses at night) rocked his solo set and the contact crowd high was instantly euphoric! It was definitely Paradise in this city.
The private event held at the Key Club last night (Friday, August 20) well be reprised a week from today when Slash takes the stage for Sunset Strip Music Festival alongside Smashing Pumpkins and Steel Panthers.
