Rare Grooves plays a guerrilla show at the Irvine Post Office.
Tonight, Tuesday May 4th, Rare Grooves will be playing at The Smell in Los Angeles with Daniel Francis Doyle. Rare Grooves is the new, punk/garage rock effort of guitarist/vocalist Danny Miller and drummer/vocalist Tabor Allen after the split up of their former band, Widow Babies, in late 2009. Miller and Allen, friends since ninth grade, decided to regroup, and in just two months pressed a 7’ EP with the help of legendary Minutemen bassist Mike Watt. Their new self-titled EP is available for pre-order at papermadeorg.org and soundsareactive.com. Although only being in new form for several months, Miller and Allen are surging ahead at full speed, already going into the studio to record four more songs, this time with a six-piece band.
Their show tonight should be energetic, fun and inspiring. I recently saw them perform/duel with Emperor X in an Irvine Post office, where they played new songs off the EP. The duo put on an amazing performance, causing Chad Matheny of Emperor X to admit he had a “band crush” on them, which is saying a lot.

May 7 – Silver Factory Studios (Los Angeles)
May 20 – Synch Space (Los Angeles)
