Local Natives to Play in Santa Barbara on 9/20

Vocal harmonies are the name of the game for these rising stars hailing from Los Angeles. The rest of the locals (or the natives) of Los Angeles are certainly showing plenty of love for the band, as they are preparing to play two sold out shows at the Henry Fonda Theater in their hometown before playing a gig in San Diego and then heading up to Santa Barbara for their show on the 20th. The Santa Barbara gig is being put on by local promoter Club Mercy, which has recently announced that tickets are almost gone for their Soho performance as well. It would certainly appear that Local Natives are having no trouble carrying their buzz from LA elsewhere, and I can’t say I’m surprised.

The five-piece act shows so much versatility in their sound, with soft piano driven ballads like the melancholy fan favorite “Airplanes,” as well as the guitar fueled rocking sound of songs like “Sun Hands.” In either case, the strength of Local Natives remains in their innate ability to draw you in with vocal melodies. Their debut album Gorilla Manor features some of the most gorgeous vocal harmonies to ever grace an eardrum. That’s not to say, however, that they are lacking anything on the instrumental front. Their ability to use their instruments to gain momentum through their songs is very impressive as well, acting as the essential instrumental cranberry sauce to their vocal turkey breast. I really hope that makes as much sense to you as it does to me, and if it doesn’t, then you should probably listen to Gorilla Manor a few more times.

Local Natives bring the whole platter of musical dynamics to the table, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them selling out a whole lot of venues this time around on tour. They drew quite a crowd at FYF recently, where they put on a great show considering the mere half hour allotted time slot. I’m looking forward to seeing them play a full set at Soho next Monday, and you should be too. Any tickets that are left are available at Club Mercy, and stay tuned for an exclusive BNB interview with Local Natives.
