For Long Beach, California-based outfit Delta Spirit, practice truly does make perfect. Their second full-length album, History From Below, was the group’s first album to appear chart on the Billboard Top 200 and is a tangible sign that the band’s profile has grown since its inception in 2005.

The roots rockers began their journey in 2005 when friends Jonathan Jameson and Brandon Young, who had played with each other in many bands, and Sean Walker decided that they wanted to start a band that could a project that they’d be passionate about. Though the three musicians had set forth on their journey, they were missing a key element: a vocalist. Cue Matthew Vasquez, who Young saw singing on a park bench at 2 A.M. and was impressed enough to give him a shot at joining the budding outfit.

Since that fateful meeting, the band has added their former producer, Kelly Winrich, and has released two full-lengths and two EPs to much acclaim. The group has toured across the globe and has appeared on shows like Late Night with Conan O’Brien. They’ve also seen their status grow to the point where they are currently playing and selling out mid-sized venues across the country as a headliner. Their video for “Bushwick Blues” has become a fixture on MTVU and has been aired on MTV2’s Subterranean

Fortunately for west coasters, the band will be concluding its two month next week with a string of shows in California. Look for more coverage from their gig at The Music Box and an exclusive interview with the band before the show next week.
